Weddings at Westminster
Congratulations on your engagement and all our best wishes as you plan one of the most important transition points of life - marriage. We will do all in our power to make both your marriage and your wedding day a positive experience. Both of these require careful planning and, although a great deal of time and detailed thought is usually given to the wedding day, we want to also help you prepare for a long, happy and successful marriage.
Procedure: Following the initial contact with the Office Administrator, you will be asked to complete a form and return it to the office with your deposit. It is important when filling out your form that the information given is accurate and clearly written. A confirmation will be sent to you, notifying you of your rehearsal time, and confirming the details of your wedding. Rehearsal times are set by the Office.
Once the wedding is booked, you will be contacted approximately three months before your wedding. There will be at least two interviews between you and the minister to arrange the details of your wedding. If you have special requests for the service or ceremony, please be sure to discuss them with the Minister, well in advance of your service. Marriage courses for couples contemplating a wedding are strongly advised, and information on these can be obtained from the church.
Marriage License: In the Province of Ontario, marriage takes place under the authority of a Marriage License. A license may be obtained at any City Hall within three months of the wedding date. In order to do the necessary paperwork, the Church Office needs to have the Marriage License in hand at least two weeks before the wedding.
Fees: • $550.00.( $695.00 non Members) This includes the use of the church sanctuary for one and one half hours, a rehearsal time of one hour, minister (includes service preparation, 2-3 appointments, etc), organist, hostess, and office services.
• $50.00. This fee will be assessed on weddings that have 120 or more guests for supervision and cleaning.
• $50.00. fee will be assessed on weddings that have 120 or more guests for cleaning
A non-refundable deposit of $100.00 is required to confirm the date and time of your choice. Once booked, if you wish to change the time of your wedding, please check availability with the Office Administrator. Before you have your invitations made up, it is advisable to confirm the details with the Office Administrator.
Music: With your letter of confirmation, you will receive information on your organist. It is your responsibility to be in contact with your organist to discuss the music for your wedding. This should be done in a timely manner, to ensure there is ample time if need be for the organist to find the particular music selections you have chosen. A soloist could be provided for you, at an additional fee. This is another item which must be discussed with the organist.
Decorations: Flowers and decorations are beautiful and may be brought to the church at the rehearsal time or alternate time with prior arrangement. In most circumstances your wedding will not be the only one happening that day. There is a small amount of time left between weddings to allow for decoration. Our recommendation is to keep it simple and elegant. Any decorations belonging to you must be removed immediately following your wedding. The church will not accept responsibility for any decorations left behind. Guests are not permitted to throw confetti, rice, flower petals, etc. in the church or on the church property.
Photography: Photographs are a very important part of any wedding and may be taken of the bridal party coming down the aisle, during the signing of the register and, of course, before and after the ceremony itself, but special poses, such as exchanging rings can be reconstructed afterwards to give plenty of time and opportunity. Video cameras may be installed and operated without floodlights in an inconspicuous location and not moved during the ceremony. Anything else is at the discretion of the Minister performing the ceremony. Any photographer who disrupts the ceremony, may be asked to leave the sanctuary by the officiating minister. We will help you to have a great wedding and a wonderful, happy marriage.
